Stepper Details

3D Printer | Posted by ShadowRam April 12th, 2013

Here’s a picture of the X and Z stepper motors. The X and Y are driven by the same model. I’ve looked up the spec’s online, and it’s comparable to the standard NEMA17 the reprap community appears to use except a little beefier. The Z stepper is a smaller stepper rated at 1A. I have some Pololu A4988 Stepper Drivers on order (with heatsinks). They should be up to the task of handling these steppers, but I’m also not expecting to require the full torque capability of these steppers. The mass of the 3D Printer head will be a fraction of what was mounted to it.

Frame Acquired

Frame in crate

This is a frame I’ve recently purchased off a co-worker. It was an old automatic mixer for some chemical company that isn’t around anymore.

It’s a heavy aluminium frame Gantry with X,Y,Z all controlled via stepper motors. I think I’ll turn it into a 3D Printer.
